Dream straddling

Dream straddling

She's sleeping
when I come to get the cat.
She's lying like a cat
faint gauze of sweat
measured breath
past parted lips -
she sleeps
she speaks
eyes flutter
and I am a sea-mammal
on a drive through a canyon
never delved.
I turn to her
she's troubled by my trespass
straddling the gap.
I stroke her hair - go back now
there's no one here at all.
I leave the cat and go.
